Kaseke’s Omonia Nicosia in setback

Kaseke, whose team has been leading the pack in the last few months, was this week recalled to the Warriors squad by interim coaches Rahman Gumbo, David Mandigora and Peter Ndlovu.
Together with England-based Onesimo Bhasera and Russia-based Musa Mguni, the players were continuously left out of the national team by Norman Mapeza, despite playing in one of the top leagues.
With the defeat, Kaseke’s team dropped to third place on the standings, a point behind AEL Limassol and tied on points with second-placed Apoel, who beat Eddie Mashinya’s Ethnikos Achnas 2-1.
In England, Bhasera’s League Two side, Plymouth Argyle, was inactive as their game against Macclesfield Town was postponed. They are, however, active tonight as they take on visiting Barnet.
The two players will without doubt welcome the trust shown in them by Gumbo and put up a polished show to repay that trust.
Zimbabwe plays Burundi in an African Nations Cup qualifier at the end of the month.
Top Zimbabwean striker Knowledge Musona continues to fire blanks for his Bundesliga outfit Hoffenheim despite playing in the 1-1 draw over the weekend.
Musona has started just a single match in 11 outings but still remains Zimbabwe’s trump card in both the Afcon qualifiers and the World Cup games which start later on this year.
Man-of-the-moment Vusa Nyoni, who plays for Germinal Beerschot in Belgium, was in the thick of things once more as his side recovered from a three-game winless streak to beat bottom-placed Sint Truiden 3-2.
Warriors coaches’ game plan will likely be around the quartet as the nation seeks a third appearance at the Afcon finals, following the suspension of 82 players over the Asiagate scandal.
