THE Government has commended private land developers in the Midlands province for their professionalism which has seen thousands of home seekers buying stands and houses at affordable prices.

Local Government, Public Works and National Housing Minister Cde Saviour Kasukuwere said land developers in the Midlands province were doing well to ensure that the country makes strides in housing delivery.

“In most urban areas throughout the country private developers have created chaos by fleecing unsuspecting home seekers of their hard earned cash, parcelling out stands on council land designated for other uses and squandering money contributed for development of the areas resulting in people building their houses on un-serviced land,” he said.

“However, the situation is different here (Midlands province). The Government commends the provincial leadership and the private developers for an organised planning system that has seen low income earners in the province getting decent housing.”

Cde Kasukuwere, who was speaking after touring the Isaiah Park housing project in Zvishavane recently, said the private land developers in the province were working hand in glove with local authorities.

Isaiah Park is a joint venture between Zvishavane Town Council and a private land developer Monesi Investments and so far 2 000 people have managed to get stands through the project.

“You find that the people are allocated stands in areas that have been serviced before any construction work, thereby contributing to this success,” he said.

The Minister of State for Provincial Affairs in the Midlands province, Cde Jason Machaya, said he was satisfied with the progress made so far when it comes to housing delivery in the province.
