ZANU-PF national commissar Cde Saviour Kasukuwere has warned party members against holding secret meetings saying such meetings were divisive. Addressing party members at Davies Hall, the party’s Bulawayo provincial offices yesterday, Cde Kasukuwere said nothing constructive came out of
the secret meetings.
“We must spend more time here in Bulawayo listening to the concerns of the people on the ground. “We don’t want these secret meetings being held in hotels. Let’s go to Makokoba to Luveve where the people are. The party is not in hotels,” said Cde Kasukuwere.
He said gossiping does not build the party so instead of gossiping the leadership should engage the people. Cde Kasukuwere lauded Bulawayo for winning all the five seats in the June by-elections saying the party was on the right track to reclaim its glory in the province after 15 years.
He said MDC formations should in future not win a single seat in Bulawayo and this is only possible if Zanu-PF delivers on its promises. “We can’t build the party as long as people do not see tangible benefits. “The party in other provinces utilised the land reform to strengthen their structures but this didn’t happen in Bulawayo,” Cde Kasukuwere said.
He, however, said what was pleasing was that the membership in Bulawayo was growing.
“When I go back to the President (Cde Robert Mugabe) I’ll tell him the correct position as regards our membership here. Bulawayo has members that’s why Davies Hall is full today. “We must continue to grow this membership. We must make it easy to recruit new members by delivering on our promises,” said Cde Kasukuwere.
He said the party leadership had an obligation to assist the President, Cde Mugabe to fulfil the mandate he was given by the people. “We’ve one leader, one centre of power and that is Cde Mugabe. The two Vice Presidents, Cdes (Phelekezela) Mphoko and (Emmerson) Mnangangwa and the rest of the leadership are there to assist him,” he said
Cde Kasukuwere received resounding applause from the party’s members after he informed them that he was in the process of identifying land for the province. He warned party leaders from abusing their positions saying the land was not for sell. Cde Kasukuwere urged beneficiaries of the land reform programme to fully utilise the land .
The Bulawayo Minister for Provincial Affairs, Cde Nomthandazo Eunice Moyo, said the province was excited to learn that Cde Kasukuwere who is also the Minister of Local Government, Public Works and National Housing was in the process of identifying land for Bulawayo. She said the province had been lobbying for land for a very long period. Cde Moyo said youths and women should be prioritised in the allocation of land.
