IF it’s true that Willard Katsande is calling and texting Wicknell Chivayo everyday threatening to quit as the national team skipper, as claimed by the controversial Zifa benefactor on his Facebook timeline yesterday, then the Kaizer Chiefs midfielder is living in cloud cuckoo land about his captaincy.
In a long winding rant, typical of what William Shakespeare described as a tale of an idiot, full of sound and fury yet signifying nothing in his book Macbeth, Chivayo claimed that Katsande told him he would throw away the captain’s armband should he (Chivayo) withdraw his sponsorship.
“I’m having sleepless nights Willard Katsande is calling and texting everyday; if you withdraw my boss I’m resigning as the captain,” Chivayo claimed on his timeline yesterday.
“Musona is also calling and texting; our boss journalists are very unprofessional please forgive us we need you. Costa Nhamoinesu: Boss we are sorry for that article, us as players are happy with your efforts,” he said.
Katsande can’t hold the nation to ransom and talk disrespectfully about the Warriors and the nation due to a self-centred and self-serving individual, who believes the Warriors owe their victory over Swaziland to him.
May we remind Katsande and any other Warriors player, locally or foreign-based, that they are not untouchables. After all, Katsande is not necessarily the best man for the Warriors’ captaincy and definitely not the only one who can do the job.
And again, he cannot act as if he is the best captain the Warriors have ever had, because we have previously had great skippers in the form of Ephraim Chawanda, the late Francis Shonhayi, Peter Ndlovu and Norman Mapeza, among others.
Yes, Katsande is a good combative midfielder, but he has clearly got his nose severely out of joint with his quit threats and we can’t understand why he would want to quit because of Chivayo. Is he the captain of Chivayo United? It will be sad to lose him, if he follows through on his threats as Chivayo claimed, but it will also give somebody else a chance to captain the Warriors.
