Mashonaland Central has sent its heartfelt condolences to families in Manicaland province that lost their loved ones to Tropical Cyclone Idai and appealed to people in the eight districts to come forward with donations.
Addressing a press conference yesterday, Information Communication Technology and Courier Services Minister Kazembe Kazembe, who is also Zanu-PF provincial chairman, said Manicaland is a sister province that previously assisted Mashonaland Central when it was affected by disasters. “It is with a heavy heart that as Mash Central we join the President, Cde Emmerson Mnangagwa, and the rest of the nation in mourning the loss of life and destruction of property in Manicaland as a result of Tropical Cyclone Idai,” said Cde Kazembe.
“We are appealing to churches, businesspeople, farmers and everyone for donation in cash and kind. No donation is too small or insignificant. We are one family, whatever affects our brothers and sisters in Manicaland also affects us. “The donations should go through our provincial administrator’s office and those in districts can approach their district administrator’s office for further submission to the PA’s office.” Cde Kazembe donated clothes and blankets. Mashonaland Central provincial chairman of war veterans Cde Sam Parirenyatwa also sent condolences to Manicaland, Mozambique and Malawi.“On behalf of war veterans, we join President Mnangagwa in mourning people in Manicaland, Mozambique and Malawi,” he said. “We have activated our membership so that they work with the provincial leadership to source donations from members of the public to assist people in affected areas.”
