SPORT, Arts and Recreation Minister, Raymond Kazembe, will tomorrow officially open the Sports and Recreation Commission (SRC) National Sports Associations governance workshop in Harare where he is also expected to share his vision for the sector.

Kazembe is expected to share with delegates his ministry’s key policy pronouncements for the industry, especially in view of the Government’s paradigm shift towards sports where it has committed to building multi-sport facilities in all the country’s 10 provinces.

Tomorrow’s indaba will begin with SRC acting director general Joseph Muchechetere presenting on the NSA’s adherence to sound corporate governance.

“It is our expectations that the conference attendees will learn a lot and cascade the knowledge gained to their peers and thus transform the way they do business. Sport is no longer a pastime activity, but it’s now a critical driver of the economy in other countries and Zimbabwe cannot afford to lag behind,” the SRC said in a statement.

Some aspects that will be discussed include a global prospective on good corporate governance, which will be presented by renowned sports administrator Tommy Sithole.

Zimbabwe Olympic Committee chief executive officer Anna Mguni will also present a paper on the country’s preparedness for the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.

Zimbabwe Aquatic Union president Mary Kloppers will talk about good corporate governance in line with the SRC Act and Statutory Instrument 342.

“It is our expectation that all National Sports Associations, colleges, universities, sports clubs, schools, church-based sports organisations and other sports delivery agents will attend this necessary indaba,” read the SRC statement. — @skhumoyo2000
