BULAWAYO Chiefs coach John Nyikadzino believes home advantage can help his side take points off sixth-placed CAPS United in their Castle Lager Premier Soccer League clash at Luveve Stadium this afternoon.
Makepekepe have 42 points from 26 matches, while Chiefs are 12th with 30 points.
“We are ready for the game. We are playing an in-form side and we have a lot of respect for CAPS United because of the quality they have and the way they have been performing,” said Nyikadzino.
“But we are Bulawayo Chiefs and playing at home gives us confidence that we can get a positive result.
“We know it will not be easy, but we have prepared well and we want to improve our position on the league table.”
Victory would take CAPS United to 45 points, while Chiefs would move to 33 with a win.
Bosso await Students
Highlanders host fourth-placed Herentals College at Barbourfields tomorrow.
Bosso are seventh with 38 points, seven behind the Students, who believe they have enough experience to cope with the Barbourfields crowd.
“Our team is now seasoned and this gives our players the advantage of not panicking against a team with big crowds,” said Herentals coach Paul Benza.
“Every team in the league is difficult to beat, home or away, and Highlanders being at home becomes more dangerous.”
Bosso were held to a 1-1 draw by Chicken Inn in Wednesday’s Bulawayo derby, days after knocking the Gamecocks out of the Chibuku Super Cup on penalties.
Goalkeeper Aron Ngwenya saved two spot-kicks to send Highlanders through after a difficult week in which the players refused to train over salary concerns, while coach Benjani Mwaruwari was dealing with health issues.
Victory tomorrow would cut the gap between Bosso and Herentals to four points, while an away win would stretch it to 10.
Benza would regard a point as a good return from Barbourfields.
“Playing away, we know getting a point will be good, especially against a big side like Highlanders,” he said.
“Discipline in defence is key and we always try not to make mistakes.”
