Kereke readmitted into Parliament

Bikita West legislator Dr Munyaradzi Kereke was readmitted into the National Assembly on Tuesday following last month’s ruling by the Constitutional Court nullifying his expulsion.
Dr Kereke was expelled from the House on October 10 after Zanu-PF, through its secretary for administration Cde Didymus Mutasa, wrote to the Speaker of the National Assembly Cde Jacob Mudenda notifying him that he had ceased to be a member of the revolutionary party.
Cde Mudenda formally notified the House of Dr Kereke’s readmission.

“The court order reinstates Honourable Munyaradzi Kereke his membership to Parliament as representative of Bikita West Constituency,” he said.

“The announcement I made on the 3rd of October notifying the House of the expulsion of Dr Munyaradzi Kereke is hereby withdrawn.
“Honourable Kereke will serve in the portfolio committees of Finance and Economic Planning and Mines and Energy.”

After his expulsion from the House, Dr Kereke approached the Constitutional Court challenging the decision, saying he had ceased to be a member of Zanu-PF when he contested the election during the harmonised elections.

He was barred from contesting on a Zanu-PF ticket after the party preferred the candidature of Cde Elias Musakwa.
Dr Kereke’s papers to stand on the revolutionary party’s ticket had been signed by the Masvingo provincial leadership.
He went on to win the seat after beating Cde Musakwa and former legislator of the constituency Mr Heya Shoko of MDC-T.

Dr Kekere’s lawyers and those representing Zanu-PF reached an out-of-court settlement before the matter was brought to court.
