ZANU-PF Bikita West MP Munyaradzi Kereke’s mother-in-law yesterday blasted the medical doctor who examined one of her grandchildren and concluded that she was sexually abused, accusing him of compiling a false report. Anna Muswapadare, a member of the Johane Masowe Wechishanu sect, maintained that the legislator was innocent, adding that her grandchildren were liars and were never sexually abused.

On Thursday, she stood by her son-in-law and exonerated him from rape charges. Kereke is facing allegations of raping his wife’s 13-year-old niece in 2010 and indecently assaulting her sister at one of his houses in Vainona. The trial continued yesterday and Muswapadare dismissed the medical report as false.

During cross-examination, private prosecutor Mr Charles Warara asked Muswapadare why she was maintaining that her grandchild was not raped yet the medical report confirmed sexual abuse. In response she said: “That doctor lied, a doctor can also lie because he is not God. These children were not sexually abused because I shared the same bedroom with them.”

Mr Warara further asked: “So you do not want the accused person to be convicted. You think your grandchildren are lying and he is telling the truth?” “How can he be convicted over fabricated charges? These are lies being made against the accused person. He did not do it,” she replied. On Thursday, Mr Warara accused Muswapadare of testifying against her “grandchildren” because they were not from her biological son.

Mr Warara asked Muswapadare why she did not mention that the victim’s father was her stepson in her statements. “In the first statement you purported as if Richard was your biological son, why did you not tell the truth? You are biased because you do not have any relationship with the victim’s father,” Mr Warara said.

He discredited Muswapadare’s evidence saying it was fabricated. He also accused her of being coached in a bid to exonerate Kereke.
