Yum Brands is the parent company of KFC, Taco Bell and Pizza Hut chains.
The group’s general manager for Africa, Mr Keith Warren, said the opening of the restaurants would bring their presence on the continent to 1 000 restaurants.
He said their new markets would include Zimbabwe, Angola, Malawi, Tanzania, Uganda, the Democratic Republic of Congo and Madagascar.
KFC closed its branches in Zimbabwe at the height of the hyperinflationary environment that characterised the country’s economy up to the beginning of 2009.
The chain had restaurants in Bulawayo and Harare.
The reopening of KFC restaurants in Zimbabwe was mainly a result of rising consumer spending.
As part of its expansion programme, Yum also plans to bring Pizza Hut restaurants to South Africa before the end of the year.
The group presently has more than 3 700 restaurants worldwide, mostly KFC outlets in China.
The company expects at least a 10 percent profit growth in 2012, led by its China business.
KFC is a fast food restaurant that mainly sells chicken and looks forward to continuing rolling out a massive Africa-wide expansion programme using South Africa as springboard.
Last year, the firm sought its presence in East Africa, Angola, Zambia, Ghana, and Nigeria.
The fast food outlet was founded in 1952.
