TOP South African music recording and promotion company KG Mafia is opening a state-of-the-art studio in Bulawayo’s Thorngrove suburb, a move that will likely boost the city’s waning showbiz scene.

KG Mafia is popular for its heart thumping beat and credited for pioneering pop music culture since the late 1990s. They are also touted as the pioneers of a tune that many in the city of Kings called Zim-House.

The recording company was the brand behind music troupe GTI which rocked the radio and leisure clubs with the hit song Call GTI, if you want to have fun.

Under the same stable also came the popular, undisputed fathers of kwaito, GoBoyz. These were the artistes that had a smashing, yet educative song titled Asikwenzi.

Now,on their return, KG Mafia puts an exceptional cap at a time when most musos in Bulawayo are crying foul at the fact that there are a few recording companies in the city.

KG Mafia country representative DJ DNice Mavala said they had made inroads in their Thorngrove music recording project. He said the recording studio was meant to give up-and-coming artistes an opportunity to produce and record high quality music.

“KG Mafia Records is pleased to announce its return. We’re back with a bang and this time, with a world class music recording and marketing studio in Thorngrove suburb.

KG Mafia already has a presence in Botswana and South Africa where its headquartered. KG Mafia chief executive Jeff Moyo said their efforts were channelled at reviving young careers that have not had a chance to be recognised.
