KHAMI PRISON will be holding the 2019 edition of the Zimbabwe Prison and Correctional Services (ZPCS) commanding inmate’s sports gala at Khami Complex grounds on 5 November.
The event will see five Bulawayo Metropolitan Province prison stations including Khami maximum, Remand, Khami medium, Mlondolozi prison and Bulawayo prison battling it out in various sporting disciplines including soccer, volleyball, netball, chess, draft and tag of war.
The principal correctional officer Garainashe Moyo who is the ZPCS Bulawayo Metropolitan Province public relations officer said the purpose for such events was to promote the interaction of inmates.
“The whole idea of holding these kinds of events is to try and bring the inmates together. The event is also a platform for the inmates to interact with the society, at the same time demystifying myths and misconceptions about our correctional system.
“The participation of inmates in sports enhances their psychological and physical well being and could be a source of livelihood upon release, if skills are properly nurtured and mastered,” said Moyo.
The ZPCS commanding inmates sports gala is an annually held event on the rehabilitation calendar where inmates gather as one family to showcase their talents and skills in various disciplines.
