Khaya Moyo consoles Bango family

death of Dr Gordon Bango last Friday.
Dr Bango suffered a stroke.
Dr Bango – a war veteran – was Matabeleland South Provincial Medical Director.
In a statement yesterday, Cde Khaya Moyo said: “Dr Bango was an unwavering cadre of the revolution imbued with sharp insight, intellect, commitment to excel wherever called to duty and indeed a man of impeccable credentials and an illustrious hero.
“His medical prowess during the liberation struggle and post-independence sustained and saved many lives. Dr Bango was also a man of immense humility but fearless and worshipped principles. He indeed served his country and people with distinction until his last breath.”
Dr Bango was born on September 23 1945 at Sontala in Kezi. He did his primary education at Sontala and St Josephs primary schools in Kezi before proceeding for his secondary education at Empandeni Mission in Mangwe.
He was expelled from school in 1962 after taking part in a student uprising against racial discrimination. Dr Bango later trained in Hungary as a medical doctor and became a resident doctor in Edinburgh, Scotland.
He later moved to Zambia where he played an active role in the liberation struggle. After independence he worked as a doctor in Gwanda and Tsholotsho.
He was later promoted to the position of Provincial Medical Director of Matabeleland South in 1984, a post he held until his death.
He is survived by his wife Mary, four children and three grandchildren.
