Zimbabwe will use every platform, especially the forthcoming Sadc and AU summits, to condemn the wanton killing of innocent people in Gaza by Israel, Zanu-PF national chairman Ambassador Simon Khaya Moyo has said.
Addressing journalists after a courtesy call by Palestinian Ambassador Hashem Dejani, Ambassador Khaya Moyo said the massacres in Palestine were depressing and President Mugabe had spoken very eloquently on the matter.

“I can assure you that I am aware also that our President will be taking over the reins of Sadc in a few days’ time as chairman of Sadc and also in January as chairman of the AU,” he said.

“These are platforms the President will use to convey your concerns, our concerns to the world and I am sure those progressive forces, world over, will take note of these messages and do all we can to assist the people of Palestine.’’

Last week, President Mugabe condemned Western silence over the wanton killing of innocent people in Gaza by Israel, yet the same countries claimed to be champions of human rights and defenders of civilians in the world.

The death toll in the four-week Israeli bombardment of Gaza has risen to over 2 000.

The Gaza Strip is an enclave region of Palestine on the eastern coast of the Mediterranean Sea that borders Egypt on the southwest for 11 kilometres and Israel on the east and north along a 51km border.

It has a population of 1,8 million people.

Ambassador Khaya Moyo said it was sad to note that the people of Gaza were lacking all types of basic commodities which made life impossible.

He said the world would not stand by and watch the barbarism going on and he was confident that Palestine would be free because of the will of the people of Gaza.

“We are proud of the people of Gaza, defenceless people who have stood against the weapons unleashed on them by Israel, their crime being they just want to be free to have their country as a free state so that they can join the rest of the world as sovereign independent people,” he said.

Ambassador Khaya Moyo said the Zanu-PF youth and women conferences were also platforms which would be used to condemn the Gaza massacres.

Mr Dejani thanked President Mugabe over his stance on Palestine.

“Zanu-PF is the most important and strongest supporter of the Palestinians in the African continent,” he said.

“Your solidarity is very important to us and is an important pillar in our struggle for revolution.”
