TODAY, Bulawayo-based commercial radio station Khulumani FM turns five and as part of its quinquennial celebrations, an anniversary roadshow will be held at Nketa 6 Shopping Centre on Saturday.

At the roadshow, entertainment will be on overload with Msiz’kay, Mawiza, Fab G Umshanakagogo, Abanqobi, Blackman, Constance Maraire, and Nutty Killer set to perform.

The multi-lingual station whose tagline is, “Izwi lethu, Igugu lethu” has helped creatives from Matabeleland showcase their talent.

Its executive producer, Rachel Hwambo said the journey has seen the radio station grow.

“Being five years old means we’ve grown as a station and we have made our mark in the broadcasting sector. The Bulawayo business community has also warmed up and accepted us as an advertising platform for them,” Hwambo said.

The celebrations are being held under the theme: “Siready”, an amalgamation of the station’s renewed efforts to offer quality broadcasting services.

“We’ve come of age as evidenced by one of our presenters, Cde Phil who bagged a Roil Bulawayo Arts Awards gong last year. We are ready for the big time and even the market is acknowledging our existence now,” she said.

Hwambo said Khulumani FM is ready to keep its listener-engagement drive vibrant through various programmes.

“Our station is community-oriented and we aim to engage more with our listeners. We have so far been able to host programmes such as ‘Isandla esiphayo’ which is a philanthropic corner for people in distress and need; and ‘Gamechangers’, where communities identify people who make a mark in their spheres of influence.

“We also work closely with People living with disabilities as well as hosting ‘Family Matters’, a programme looking at the social, spiritual and moral fabrics of our African society. To keep our culture alive, we have ‘Amasiko Ethu’ as well as an adult-themed show that we call, ‘Behind closed doors’. We’re happy to be in sync with our listeners and we promise quality content moving forward. Ours is an idea of not leaving anyone behind,” said Hwambo. – @MbuleloMpofu
