KWAITO-house musician Khulekani “Khuxxman” Bethule says his new single Unyawo Lwami will surpass the popularity of his hit single Vumelani sangoma that won him a Zimbabwe Music Award last year. Unyawo Lwami, released last month is already receiving heavy rotation at various local nightspots. Vumelani sangoma bagged him an award at last year’s Zimbabwe Music Awards under the Best House Album gong.

“I foresee Unyawo lwami, being a bigger hit than Vumelani sangoma. People like it and although it hasn’t been on radio but around the city most nightspots and weddings play it in its first month of release,” said Khuxxman.

He said after witnessing the success of Vumelani sangoma he decided to look for another folksong to remix into an urban house beat.

“The song is a remix of a Ndebele folk song with an urban house twist. I realised with the way I produced Vumelani sangoma and its subsequent success that it was a winning formula; I did the same with Unyawo lwami. The song is known by most people who watch traditional dancers do isitshikitsha,” said Khuxxman.

He said in anticipation of the popularity of the song he designed t-shirts, caps and bucket hats branded Unyawo lwami that fans could order from him.

“This is part of an experiment as I want to see if the merchandise can be sold and how popular it is. Everything costs $10 but stocks are limited and people can contact me on my Facebook page and place orders,” said Khuxxman.
