THE Zimbabwe Kickboxing Association (ZKA) has stepped up its preparations for the World Championships to be held in Israel from March 24 to March 28.ZKA president, Tony Kamangira said Team Zimbabwe which comprises Innocent Murape, George Vericha Chakanetsa and Malvern Gwanzura among others is now in camp to prepare for the championships.
Kamangira said as part of the preparations the team will be travelling to South Africa together with budding kickboxers from selected schools in Harare for the Great North championships which will be held on March 14.
“Our team is now in camp for the World Championships which will be held in Israel and as part of our preparations the team will be participating at the Great North Championships to be held in Pretoria, South Africa. The team has been training on Saturdays since last month but now that they’re in camp they’re now training daily.
“As part of our development efforts of the sport young kickboxers from schools will also be travelling with the team to the championships in South Africa so that they gain exposure at an early age. We’ve identified kickboxers from St George’s, Allan Wilson and Prince Edward who’ll accompany the team,” he said.
Botswana, Namibia, Lesotho, Swaziland, Tanzania, Zambia will also be part of the Championships in South Africa.
The ZKA president will also be part of the travelling party where he is expected to officiate in some of the bouts at the Great North Championships.
Kamangira said the quest for medals from the team to take part in South Africa will be high as the kickboxers who are making the travelling party were experienced at this stage of the competition.
