Kidnappers resurface in Gweru

Acting Midlands police spokesperson, Assistant Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko, confirmed the incident which occurred last week on Tuesday, at about 4pm.

He said on the day in question, the victim, Victor Moyo (17), was near Doves Funeral Parlour along Main Street in Gweru waiting for transport to Whawha Prison.

Asst Insp Mahoko said a Toyota Corolla with two men and a woman pulled up at the pick-up point and offered Victor a lift. “It is alleged that upon approaching Pfende Business Centre, the driver of the vehicle turned the vehicle to the right along Harmony Road and drove for about 5km. The driver stopped the vehicle. It is suspected that the driver and the other man dragged Victor out of the vehicle into the bush,” he said.

Asst Insp Mahoko said the gang tied Victor by the neck to a tree using a wire and drove away.

He said the boy managed to free himself after some time and went home where he narrated his ordeal to his father.

“The matter was reported to the police, who attended to the scene. We have since launched a manhunt for the three suspects, who are still at large.

“We once again appeal to members of the public who might have information that may lead to the arrest of the suspects to approach any nearest police station to them. They can also make use of our suggestion boxes around the country,” said Asst Insp Mahoko.
