HE’S back, and he’s done it again! For the second straight year, Zimbabwean professional golfer Kieran Vincent returned home to African soil and claimed another prestigious Sunshine Tour title, winning the Waterfall City Tournament of Champions Supported by Attacq and WCMC at Royal Johannesburg yesterday.

Fresh off his title defence at last week’s Kit Kat Cash and Carry, Vincent was in blistering form, not dropping a single shot in the third round, where he carded a jaw dropping 61 to seize control of the leaderboard.

After opening with a steady 70, Vincent made the cut with a solid second round 69, then soared into contention with his Saturday masterclass. He followed that up with a final round 70 to close out the tournament on an 18 under-par 270, finishing four shots clear of seasoned campaigner Daniel van Tonder.

Pieter Moolman took third, closing on 13-under after a final round 69.

Vincent entered the final day leading at 16-under-par, but his title bid almost derailed early on, when disaster struck at the par-four third hole.

“The first one went out of bounds and the second one followed suit,” Vincent admitted. “Once the second one goes out of bounds, you start to get really nervous.”

“But me and my team have been talking about fighting for a while, and that’s what was ringing in my head. Walking off the third green towards the fourth tee, I told myself the only way we can go through this is if we fight.”

And fight he did. Vincent clawed his way back, rolling in seven birdies on the unique composite nine hole layout used for this edition of the tournament.

“Credit to my team throughout the last couple of months for instilling a lot in me to be able to fight like the way we did today,” he said. “A lot goes on when you play a nine hole loop and it’s my first time doing that. I really enjoyed it. All in all, it was a great day.”

Vincent’s latest win cements his status as one of Zimbabwe’s most promising golfers, continuing to fly the flag high on the Sunshine Tour.
