A WOMAN from Bulawayo allegedly killed her new born baby by wrapping the tot in a plastic bag before burying it in her vegetable garden.

Evelyn Dube (32) from Emakhandeni suburb allegedly buried the baby, whose sex was not disclosed in court, to conceal its birth.

Dube appeared before Western Commonage magistrate Ms Tancy Dube charged with a single count of concealment of birth.

She was not asked to plead and remanded in custody to January 4.

Prosecuting, Mr Tony Kamudyariwa told the court that on Sunday at around 6PM, Evelyn was alone at home when she gave birth to the child.

“She dug a hole inside the vegetable garden and buried the child. A tip off was made by an unknown person to the police leading to the arrest of the accused person.”

The court also heard police dug up the body from the vegetable garden and took it to the United Bulawayo Hospitals (UHB) mortuary.—@SlyCee10
