A 46-YEAR-OLD Bulilima man who reportedly killed his 17-year-old nephew over a scotch cart has appeared in court facing murder charges.

Zamani Moyo of Tshukuluthu Village in Maitengwe appeared on initial remand before Plumtree magistrate, Mr Livard Philemon facing a murder charge. He was remanded in custody to July 5.

Prosecuting, Ms Jane Phiri said Moyo struck his nephew, Treasure Moyo with an iron rod on the head killing him on the spot on June 7. She said Moyo fled to Botswana but police arrested him at Maitengwe Border Post after he was deported two days later.

“Moyo arrived home on June 7 coming from a church gathering and found that his scotch cart was broken down. He inquired from his family and learnt that his nephew, Takemore Moyo had used it to collect fire wood and left it with a punctured tyre.

“Moyo confronted Takemore and demanded to know why he had used the scotch cart and left it with a punctured tyre,” she said.

Ms Phiri said Moyo fatally struck his nephew with an iron rod in the scuffle that ensued.
