Killing pregnant lover earns man jail term

A 30-year-old man from Kwekwe, who brutally murdered his 22-year-old girlfriend whom he had impregnated by crushing her head with a stone, has been slapped with a 20-year jail term.

Freddy Savanhu of House number Q49 Torwood, Redcliff in Kwekwe murdered Thandiwe Ndlovu accusing her of cheating on him before fleeing. He was found guilty of murder with constructive intent. Savanhu, who was represented by Dzimba, Jaravaza and Partners legal practitioners was convicted by Bulawayo High Court Judge, Justice Lawrence Kamocha sitting in Gweru after a fully contested trial. Savanhu brutally assaulted Ndlovu also of Redcliff, Kwekwe, before hitting her with a stone on the head following a heated argument over the pregnancy

On November 16 2013 at around 9:30am, Ndlovu asked Savanhu to accompany her to a nearby bush near Torwood Cemetery where she wanted to relieve herself.

Ndlovu informed Savanhu that she was now pregnant, but he refused responsibility and accused her of having another boyfriend. The court heard that Ndlovu insisted that Savanhu was responsible and that he was supposed to marry her. A heated argument ensued between the two, resulting in Savanhu assaulting Ndlovu with open hands before striking her with a stone on the head and breaking her leg. She collapsed and fell unconscious while bleeding profusely from the mouth, nose and ears.
