Guitarist and recording musician Kinah The Music will soon give back to the community as the R.O.O.T hitmaker has collaborated with Matopos Rotaract and Aquaterra on a drive to donate winter clothes to orphans.
The reigning National Arts Merit Awards (Nama) Outstanding Newcomer said orphanages who will benefit from the initiative are St Francis Home as well as Thuthuka Orphanage, and they will hand over the clothes on Africa Day (25 May). Kinah further revealed that he was inspired to do the donations because of his personal experiences while growing up as sometimes he lacked warm clothes.
“We will be donating to two Bulawayo based orphanages on Africa Day and our initiative runs under the theme “Umuntu ngumuntu ngabantu” (a person is a person through people). I collaborated with Matopos Rotaract and Aquaterra on this drive and we are open to those who want to join us and chip in so that we add more orphanages to give back to on the list.
“Primarily, we will be donating clothes as we are slowly approaching winter. I believe the kids need them the most so that they can be warm during this harsh season. But we are also trying to source some groceries as well. This will only come to fruition if more people join us in this cause. This project is personal to me as it is inspired by my childhood experience. At some point in my life I once had one set of clothes for both school and church and I couldn’t even afford a decent pair of shoes. But when God blessed me, He changed my life and it inspired me to do the same for others,” said Kinah.
Meanwhile, the singer revealed that he will be releasing a song titled Africa, which celebrates African pride and culture.
“The song is about not forgetting Ubuntu. It is also about being your brother’s keeper. While growing up, a child in my community knew that any elder there was regarded as a guardian. So the song is a reminder for us to go back to our roots and foster relations that build us as a community,” said Kinah.
