NKAYI-BRED rhumba musician King Phosa is set to release his fifth album on Friday, a day before the nation commemorates its 46th Independence anniversary, in what he hopes will further cement his music in the hearts of fans.
The new offering, titled Xola Forgive, features six tracks and continues the artiste’s steady rise within the rhumba music scene.
Born Brighton Maphosa from Ziqalabeni Village in Nkayi District, King Phosa, who leads the Nkayi Challengers band, said the album reflects his growth and dedication since entering the industry.
“I started music in 2021 and have recorded four albums. It was hard when I started, but through my productions, people are warming up to my music. In 2024, one of my songs, Makoti, performed well on the Radio Zimbabwe Top 50,” he said.
The tracks on the new album include Hold Me Babe, Sebembiza ngeNduna, Gwaza Mkonto, Siphila Ngamanga and Isihelo. His previous albums are Kwanele (2021), Ngixakwe Ngbantu (2022), Inkunzi Emnyama (2024) and Izidakamizwa (2025).
King Phosa said his music continues to explore social issues while maintaining a focus on longevity and meaningful storytelling.
He said there will be no official album launch on Friday, but instead, he will rely on digital platforms to promote the release.
“The industry is not that easy, but we’re pushing. We hope to get sponsors who can make it easier for us to perform live shows, as we currently do not perform much due to a lack of our own PA system,” he said.
