LOCAL body-builders have stepped up preparations for the Kings and Queens Grand Prix to be held at Highbury Lounge in Kadoma on August 3.
The event promises top-notch competition as the contest carries a ticket to the African League of Champions competition to be held in Zambia.
Beloved George, who won the men’s jeans model last year, is already sweating it out in the gym and looking forward to the contest.
“I am happy that I will be on stage in two months and I have already started preparing. I aim to defend my title so that I qualify for the regional tournament set for Zambia,” said George.
The Kings and Queens Grand Prix is the second tournament of the year on the WFFZ calendar after the Novice Cup, which was held on March 16 at the Long Cheng Plaza in the capital. After rolling out their calendar for the 2024 season with several national and provincial contests lined up, the WFF Zimbabwe said are on track to achieve all their goals. The WFFZ president, Godwin Simba Mhaka, said the calendar is going according to plan. They have taken preparations for the next contest a notch up as it is also used as a qualifier for All Africa League of Champions to be held in Zambia.
“The Kings and Queens Grand Prix is meant for seasoned campaigners ,who have been on the stage in contests like Novice and other previous campaigns. We are ready to host our tournaments this year and hope we will provide some top athletes who will go on and make an impact and represent the country at regional and international level.
“We are hoping to have many athletes for the pro-am in Brazil. So, such contests like the Kings and Queens Grand Prix play a critical role in preparing them,” said Mhaka.
The contests will see athletes competing in junior and senior men’s body-building, women’s sports models, jeans models, men’s sports models and bikini models among several other contests.
Local athletes are also expected to compete in the South Africa Grand Prix on August 14.
