Kireni Zulu’s 12-year-old daughter, Esin, says music commitments will not distract her studies.
The Zengeza 8 Primary School learner in Chitungwiza, has been making cameo appearances at her father’s family shows, where she is being showered with cash by fans.
She has also been holding solo acts with the backing of the Talking Guitars Band.
Esin has also been showing maturity beyond her age each time she gets an opportunity to perform.
In an interview, Esin said school comes first while music is a calling.
“I value my education as much as I respect my musical career.
“At home, I perform all the expected chores and I do not treat myself like a celebrity indoors.
“My father is the one who runs my musical affairs and I do not have problems balancing music and school work,” she said.
To date, she has two albums to her credit namely “Tererai” released in 2020, and “Ndauya Zvachose”, unveiled in 2022.
She is currently working on her third album called “Ndiri Mundima”, due for release anytime this year.
With a busy schedule, Esin said she has devised ways to handle pressure.
“I always consult my father in everything that I do so that I do not give myself pressure. He makes sure that I have had enough rest at home so that I do not become distracted.
“My father has been teaching me to handle fame.”
Esin, who has been singing alongside Shamiso Malapula (10), is upbeat she will become an international star.
“The good news is that I come from a musical family, which makes my job easier.
“I can also relate well with others despite my new found status.
“I have been singing along with my friend Shamiso, who loves music and dancing,” she said.
Esin’s father, Kireni, who is also a living legend, urged parents to support their children’s talents.
“I spotted her talent when she was only two years old. She enjoyed everything, which I did and I am glad she is a fast learner.
“She started nagging me to teach her music and I am doing my best to ensure that she realises her potential.
“I do not want her to blame me in the future for not fully supporting her,” he said.
Kireni also cleared the air on claims that he was the one writing Esin’s songs.
“She writes her songs but as her mentor, I help her to ensure there is coherence. I also make sure that she sings sense because I want her to do music with substance.
“This is our role as parents to monitor our kids’ progress all the time,” he said.
Kireni also blessed his daughter’s new campaign against drug and substance abuse.
“She has composed a song about anti-drug abuse and I am glad that Esin is in touch with issues affecting her peers. Esin has made me a proud father in Chitungwiza and everywhere I travel with her.
“God has blessed me with a talented girl who is brilliant in music and academics,” he said.
