FOUR kittens were found relaxing in a sack of sugar at a city beverage plant, which was operating without a licence, which was raided by police in Waterfalls yesterday.
Police officers busted the ‘Mawuya Ginger Drink’ plant for manufacturing and distributing the drinks with a label of medicinal claims without a licence which allowed the company to do that. National police spokesperson, Commissioner Paul Nyathi, said Waterfalls Police Station senior officers and detectives spotted the kittens when they were touring the plant.
“I am not aware of how these cats found themselves in the sugar sacks,” said Livingston Eras, one of the managers.
Commissioner Nyathi said two people were picked up and they are leading police with investigations to establish how they operated such a company without a licence.
“Police have noted with concern the health risks facing people following the arrest of company owners operating without a licence.
“As the Zimbabwe Republic Police, we are urging business operators to consider complying with Government regulations to safeguard people’s health.
“Two suspects have been arrested and police have widened their investigations and more details will be released in due course,” said Comm Nyathi.
The company has 65 employees.
