KK attends prayer rally

President Banda, who was among hundreds of Christians who gathered at the Cathedral of the Holy Cross in Lusaka on September 11 for a prayer rally ahead of next week Tuesday’s polls, said with all the prayers going on in the country Zambians should feel safe.
“Of course, we cannot pretend that we are not worried of what we are hearing and seeing but as president of this country, it is my responsibility to physically ensure the safety of citizens during the elections and beyond,” he said.

President Banda thanked the church for organising the prayers ahead of the tripartite elections.
He said his interest is to be re-elected in a peaceful and fair manner.
“It will not be correct to be in this competition to lose the elections, because I want to win,” President Banda said.

President Banda said Zambia is blessed with natural resources including climate, minerals and abundant water.
The President said prayers for peace are necessary and should be appreciated.
He also thanked former president Kenneth Kaunda for attending the prayers.

“I am sure everyone is happy to see Dr Kaunda join us to pray for our land Zambia,” President Banda said. Dr Kaunda called on Zambians to maintain peace as the nation goes to the polls.
He said the country can only prosper in a peaceful atmosphere.
“We need genuine peace during and after elections because we are one despite our political affiliation and tribes,” Dr Kaunda said.

And Council of Churches in Zambia representative Moses Mwale said the church is disappointed that political cadres have continued to engage in violence despite President Banda’s repeated calls for peace. – Zambia Daily Mail.
