adminLIVERPOOL. — Jurgen Klopp has been offered a new long-term contract by Liverpool after just nine months at Anfield. Liverpool’s American owners FSG are delighted with the progress Klopp has made since he succeeded Brendan Rodgers in October as boss.
Klopp’s current £7 million-a-year deal runs until 2018 with an option to extend it to 2019 and FSG want to tie him to Anfield beyond this.
Majority owner John W Henry and his partners Tom Werner and Mike Gordon want to remove any iota of doubt that the German’s long-term future lies with the Reds by tabling this new deal.
FSG’s move is a public sign of the confidence they have in Klopp that he can return Liverpool to the Champions League and bring success back to Anfield. They have been impressed by the work he has done during his first season in the job and he led the Reds to two cup finals.
Klopp is also happy with the support given to him and he has established a good working relationship with the Reds hierarchy.
The former Borussia Dortmund coach has bought into FSG’s philosophy and both share the same vision about how to take Liverpool forward.
Klopp (49) feels he does not need to spend tens of millions each transfer window to make Liverpool competitive again in the Premier League and shares FSG’s belief in nurturing young talent.
Liverpool fans will be pleased with FSG’s move and Klopp has been hugely popular with them from the moment he was confirmed as boss. — The Mirror.
