He wants a head coaching role in the Indian Premier League (IPL).
A busy period approaches for the former Proteas all-rounder.
After New Zealand’s tour of Zimbabwe in early August, Klusener will be heading off to India to coach Lyca Kovai Kings in the inaugural edition of the Tamil Nadu Premier League in August/September.
The competition is aimed at giving Chennai-based cricket fans something to watch after the Super Kings were suspended from the Indian Premier League for two years due to the owner’s involvement in illegal betting.
The 44-year-old, who was a batting consultant for the Mumbai Indians for a few years, told Indian media he is looking forward to the challenge as he aims to take up a bigger role in the IPL.
“I have always enjoyed working in India and it is an opportunity for me to be able to do so.
“I would obviously want to be part of the IPL once again, and this is a stepping stone in that direction.
“I am obviously excited by the new challenge that’s in front of me.
“It is important to go out there with an open mind and be ready to work with the people who are available.
“Having played in India and coached there as well, I know what works on those conditions and that to me is big plus,” Klusener added.
The former South African international was in May announced as batting coach for Zimbabwe on a two-year contract and working with compatriot Makhaya Ntini, who is the head coach. — sacricketmag.com/Sports Reporter
