A 39-YEAR-OLD man from Pumula North is behind bars after he and two accomplices allegedly pounced on a pedestrian and robbed him of US$140 at knifepoint.

Thandolwenkosi Ncube appeared before Western Commonage magistrate Archie Wochiwunga and was remanded in custody to August 28.

Prosecutor Tafara Dzimbanhete told the court that the incident happened in July when the complainant, Thabisani Maphosa (24), was walking along a bushy path between Pumula North and Magwegwe West.

Ncube and his crew, armed with a machete and an okapi knife, confronted Maphosa and demanded money. They allegedly tore his trouser pocket and grabbed his wallet, which had US$140.

Maphosa screamed for help and with the aid of a friend managed to apprehend Ncube, who was handed over to Pumula Police Station.
The money was never recovered and police are hunting down the two accomplices still on the run.
