Golden Arrows forward Knox Mutizwa has pointed out there is more to his game than scoring goals amid a five-month long goal drought.
The Zimbabwean forward Knox Mutizwa last scored for Golden Arrows in October 2023 in a South Africa DStv Premiership match against Kaizer Chiefs.
Mutizwa notched a brace that powered Abafana Bes’thende to a win over The Glamour Boys. Sadly, that was the last time the 30-year-old scored for Arrows, where he is the all-time goalscorer.
In 209 appearances for Arrows, the former Highlanders FC striker has contributed 60 goals. This season, he has scored three goals.
Last season, he managed eight goals and six assists in all competitions for the team. Nevertheless, he is confident his scoring form will return, and he can put the goal drought behind him.
With ten matches remaining before the DStv Premiership curtain goes down, Mutizwa told FARPost: “I hope to do a lot better. “This has not been my best season. I have not been scoring but this is football, I’m going to get my form back.
“These last few games are going to be key for me and the team. I have to start scoring and end the frustrating drought.
“The team needs me at my best level so that we can also end the season on a high note because we haven’t been winning,” Mutizwa added.
The steady marksman said he has always seen himself as a creator as well as a goal-scorer.
“Sometimes, it doesn’t matter if I don’t score but getting to provide assists is valuable to me. I take joy in assisting others to score although my job is to get those goals for the team. Right now, my focus is on ending the season on a high note. I’m working very hard to help the team win more games. We were not winning games only until coach Steve (Komphela) came. Hopefully, we can maintain that momentum and start getting goals.”
He admitted to feeling frustration and even anger when he does not perform at his best. Mutizwa has also been snubbed by Zimbabwe national team coaches in recent times.
“It’s sad that I have not been called to the national team maybe because of not scoring. But I hope the last games of the league will be crucial in helping me get my place back ahead of the June World Cup qualifiers.” (source: farpost.co.za)
