Kombi driver arrested after ramming into vendors, killing two and injuring 17 in Bulawayo

The driver of a commuter omnibus that struck pedestrians at the intersection of Sixth Avenue and Lobengula Street on Wednesday evening has been arrested, police and emergency officials confirmed.

Seventeen people were injured, sustaining varying degrees of injuries, and were transported to Mpilo Central Hospital by three brigade ambulances, according to Bulawayo Chief Fire Officer Mhlangano Moyo, who spoke at the scene.

“The kombi driver has been taken into custody for questioning. So far two people have died on the spot and 17 have been ferried to Mpilo Central Hospital,” Mr Moyo said.
