LONDON — Liverpool legends have turned on Luis Suarez after the striker announced he wanted to quit Anfield.
Former Anfield players have come out fighting on behalf of the Merseyside club in response to Suarez’s kick in the teeth.Suarez was left behind as his Liverpool teammates travelled to Norway to face Valarenga, training at Melwood with only his daughter, Delfina, on the pitch.
Former Anfield midfielder Ray Houghton told talkSPORT: “They should let him go. It’s as simple as that. There’s no player bigger than any club, and certainly not Liverpool Football Club. There have been bigger players than Luis Suarez who have left.
“You don’t want a player like that at the club. He’s going to be moping about in the changing room because he hasn’t got the move he wants. It seems to me he’s tried to manufacture a move. Whether that’s to Arsenal, or if he thinks Real Madrid will come in for him, then there, but only time will tell.
Another Kop icon, former midfielder Didi Hamann tweeted: “LFC had been making headlines for the wrong reasons too often in recent months due to Suarez. The club is about dignity, humility and respect.
“I’m not sure how that Suarez saga will end. I feel for Rodgers because it has got to have a negative effect on the squad with PL start so close,” he said. — Mailonline.
