Korea Partnership for Innovation of Agriculture (KOPIA) has donated a hatchery for indigenous chickens to the Scientific and Industrial Research and Development Centre (SIRDC) to empower rural communities.

The donation will empower thousands of Hwedza women who have undergone training in hatchery.

Speaking during the hand-over ceremony of indigenous chickens and the hatchery in Harare, Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Lands, Agriculture, Fisheries, Water and Rural Development Professor Obert Jiri said the donation will go a long way in supporting Government efforts in achieving food security and economic empowerment as espoused in the National Development Strategy.

“The project was made possible by the cordial bilateral relations between the Republic of Zimbabwe and the Republic of Korea which dates back to 1994,” he said.

“This relationship culminated in Zimbabwe becoming a member of the Korea Africa Food and Agriculture Cooperation Initiative (KAFACI) in 2010 and the establishment of a KOPIA Zimbabwe Centre in 2016.”
