Kuipers finishes eighth in Mombasa

ZIMBABWE’S leading female triathlete Andie Kuipers secured eighth position in a solid showing in Saturday’s Africa Triathlon Cup in Mombasa, Kenya.

The 20-year-old US-based rising star, who was making a return from injury was in the leading pack at the end of the bike stage held on the shores of the Indian Ocean in Kilifi, a coastal town north of Mombasa.

Kuipers stayed in touch in the 5km run and ultimately finished behind comfortable winner Tanja Stroschneider from Austria.

Poland’s Zuzanna Sudak came in second position while Japan’s Niina Kishimoto completed the podium in the Elite Women’s race. While she was placed eighth overall in the field of 14 participants in the Elite Women’s event, Kuipers was second in the Under-23 category, as she continues to make big strides in her career.
