POLITICAL activist Jim Kunaka appeared before the Harare Magistrates Court over the weekend, facing charges of inciting public violence.

Kunaka, who was not asked to plead, appeared before provincial magistrate Mrs Sharon Rakafa.

The State opposed bail, and he was remanded in custody until tomorrow for a full bail hearing.

According to prosecutor Ms Dzidzai Josiah, Kunaka, along with accomplices already on remand and others still at large, allegedly conspired to incite the public to participate in an unlawful gathering.

The gathering was scheduled for October 17, 2025, at Robert Gabriel Mugabe Square in Harare and another in Mutare.

The court heard that Kunaka and his accomplices allegedly printed and distributed thousands of flyers promoting the march.

The flyers were distributed across various locations in Harare, including the Central Business District, Machipisa Shopping Centre, Mashwede Service Station, Tichagarika Shops in Glen View, and Budiriro 1 Shops.

Police reportedly received a tip-off about flyers being distributed from a silver Toyota Aqua registration number AGI 8393.

The vehicle was tracked to Patrenda Road in Glen View 3, where police intercepted it and arrested some of Kunaka’s alleged accomplices.

Kunaka himself reportedly fled the scene. The police recovered approximately 7 200 flyers from the vehicle, which were taken as evidence. Several of Kunaka’s accomplices are currently on remand,
