KUNDAI Benyu scored again as he continues to adjust to the demands of playing in the Castle Lager Premiership.
The midfielder scored the insurance goal, his second goal in as many games at Rufaro, after Tendai Matindife had opened the scoring in the 13th minute from the penalty spot.
Benyu’s goal came in the 41st minute.
Matindife, who was promoted into the starting XI after impressive performances coming off the bench, converted from the spot after beating Elton Nechiware in the Kwekwe United goal.
The Green Machine doubled their lead just before halftime when Benyu capitalised on a cut back from Nyasha Chintuli in the 41st minute.
Kwekwe United’s Farai Mutatu showed his acrobatic skills with a spectacular bicycle kick in the 45th minute but goalkeeper Harmony Nare was equal to the task.
Kwekwe United were a better outfit in the second half but they just could not find a goal.
Mutatu’s header in the 73rd minute was easily collected by an alert Nare.
Kenneth Pasuwa’s injury in the 84th minute meant Kwekwe United finished the game with 10 men since they had used all their substitutes.
CAPS United could have made it 3-0 after Tanaka Shandirwa connected a cross from substitute Eric Manokore in the 87th minute but it went inches wide.
CAPS United assistant coach, Alex Sigion, who was in charge in the absence of head coach Ian Bakala, said it was a much-needed result.
“We told the boys that let’s go and fight for the badge.
“And the boys, they showed up and we got the result we wanted.”
Kwekwe United coach Paul Chimalizeni felt that defensive errors were letting the team down.
“We played very well but, unfortunately, we conceded goals and we tried to come back but we couldn’t get goals.
“So, we are going to regroup and try to rectify our mistakes and we take it from there.”
