Kuwadzana man jailed for theft, firearm possession

A Kuwadzana man, Bright Makuvatsine (25) was sentenced to an effective 8 months in prison after being found guilty of theft and unlawful possession of a firearm.
Makuvatsine appeared before the Harare Magistrates’ Court facing charges of theft and unlawful possession of a firearm.
He was convicted and sentenced to 12 months in prison on count one of which four months were suspended.
He was further sentenced to pay a fine of US$300 on count two and will serve four months in prison if he fails to pay the fine.

The State alleged that the incident occurred on June 28, 2024, when Makuvatsine was among those assisting a couple involved in a car accident along Bulawayo Road.
While helping, the court heard, he stole a satchel containing the couple’s belongings, including a 9mm Sarsilmaz pistol.
Makuvatsine was arrested on August 23 after being spotted with the firearm at Kuwadzana 6 Shopping Centre.
He also led authorities to the recovery of some of the stolen items.
