IN 2025, Chingwere forward Brian Kwaramba was playing as a defensive midfielder, and he managed just a single goal throughout the season in Mashonaland West Division Two.
When his team won promotion into the MCM Estates Northern Soccer League at the start of this year, Kwaramba then moved into an attacking midfield role.
That switch has proved a tactical masterpiece that has worked handsomely for both the player and the club, sparking an amazing journey that has unleashed a hidden talent in Kwaramba.
From a single goal which he scored when Chingwere was still in the lower leagues, Kwaramba has found the target 15 times so far.
He has risen to become the league’s leading scorer.
Kwaramba is also so far living his dream after setting himself a target of at least 18 goals in Chingwere’s debut NRSL season.
His goals are also part of the reason why the Mashonaland West outfit are among the title chasers and sitting third on the log table behind seasoned campaigners Black Rhinos and Harare City.
At the rate he has been scoring goals, Kwaramba can fancy his chances of increasing his tally in the team’s remaining 13 games.
Kwaramba is confident that he could keep his nose in front and claim the league’s Golden Boot award.
“Definitely, I will win the top goalscorer award.
“Getting where I am today was not by chance but by effort,” Kwaramba said.
The midfielder who was born and bred in Harare’s Kuwadzana suburb, is also taking a cautious approach amid all the confidence.
“They say you will cross the bridge when you reach the river. Football is a crazy game in which anything can happen.”
“Although I am taking a cautious approach, deep down I know that I can do it,” he said.
Kwaramba started playing football when he was at Mufakose 3 High School before joining Chingwere in 2022.
The Mhondoro-based side were then affiliated with the ZIFA Mashonalad West Area Zone.
He has been with the club ever since.
Asked about his future prospects, Kwaramba indicated that he has set his sights on playing in the Premiership and winning a call up to the senior national team.
“I am confident that I will one day feature in the PSL, either with Chingwere or any other team.
“For me, playing for my country is not a far-fetched dream,” Kwaramba added.
