IF ever there is someone who knows the inner workings, strengths and weaknesses of Caps United, having worked with the Green Machine over the years, it is the club’s former assistant coach, Fungai “Tostao” Kwashi.
Kwashi, who was part of the CAPS United set up since he was eight years old, is now the assistant coach to Joey Antipas at Chicken Inn, a club he joined earlier this year following his divorce with Makepekepe.
Kwashi was in the CAPS United dugout for eight years but come Sunday he will be on the opposite end when Gamecocks welcome Lloyd Chitembwe’s CAPS charges at Luveve Stadium.
The outspoken Kwashi opted to be cautious and has predicted a potential nail-biting encounter saying they can only under-estimate CAPS United at their own peril.
“As for us at Chicken Inn, we put God first ahead of such a particularly tough match, it is not going to be an easy game. Caps United are a big team and it’s going to be an exciting match and our boys are ready.
“We are worried about ourselves, our family and our organisation. We are not satisfied with our performances in the past months. It’s not about challenging anyone but ourselves. We need to give out everything because the buck stops with us,” said Kwashi.
The gaffer also underscored that they will not be reading much into the strike that Caps United players engaged in to force the club to pay them their outstanding winning bonuses, unpaid salaries and signing-on fees.
“That’s when they are more dangerous because they will have a lot to prove but we are not going to read much into that. We are fixing our house, room by room because there is a lot at stake come season end,” Kwashi joined the Gamecocks alongside CAPS midfielder, Joseph Thulani at the start of the year.
The potentially exciting duel, which is one of the two blockbuster ties set for Sunday, comes after the league had taken a one-week time-out.
Chicken Inn are eighth with 23 points, 12 behind log leaders FC Platinum.
Makepekepe are on position nine on the log standings and have amassed 22 points.
In the first leg encounter between the two sides, played in Harare, Chicken Inn edged the Green Machine 1-0, courtesy of an Itai Mabhunu header.
The league reached its halfway mark after 17 rounds of play and Saturday will mark the start of the second half of the season, which comes at a time when the second transfer-window has opened.
Some focus will also be in Harare at Rufaro Stadium where the country’s two old-time nemesis Dynamos and Highlanders clash for the second time in the league.
In the opening match of the 2024 PSL season, Bosso beat their bitter rivals 2-1 at Barbourfields Stadium back in March.
