Kwekwe accident victims named

The death toll from the Kwekwe accident that occurred on Monday this week involving a Zupco bus, a Honda Fit and two kombis, has risen to nine.

In a statement yesterday, national police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed the increase in the death toll.

He also named seven of the deceased after informing their next of kin.

They are; Lovemore Chininga (23), Pauline Nyamadzao (19), Molina Moyo (58), Urgent Zvidza (50), Nothabo Makoni (two-month-old), Maria Nyoni (50) and Nyasha Paso (38).

“The other two bodies are yet to be identified and are held at Kwekwe General Hospital mortuary,” he said.

“Members of the public are free to approach the institution and assist with the identification. The police continues to urge drivers to be observant, exercise extreme caution, avoid speeding and above all be safety conscious while driving on the roads.”

This week, 27 other people were injured when another Zupco bus overturned near Beatrice on the Harare-Masvingo Highway.
