A 23-year-old Kwekwe man has appeared before the Gweru Magistrates’ Court on allegations of raping a 10-year-old girl before cutting off his private parts.
The suspect, whose name is being withheld to protect the victim’s identity, was remanded from a hospital bed in Gweru where he is receiving medical attention.
He will appear in court on October 8, 2024.
Allegations are that sometime this month at around 3pm, the suspect dragged the victim into a building that is under construction.
He raped the minor and stopped when he heard a voice calling the victim’s name. He allegedly threatened to kill her if she screamed or revealed the matter to anyone.
On September 14 at around 8 pm, the suspect then cut off his manhood with a knife as he screamed that the victim was his wife.
The matter came to light when the victim revealed the offence to her grandmother, leading to the accused’s arrest.
The National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe made an application for the accused person to be examined by two doctors in terms of the Mental Health Act and the application was granted.
Meanwhile, a 29-year-old man from Mutorashanga has been sentenced to 20 years in prison at the Chinhoyi Magistrates’ Courts for raping an 11-year-old girl.
The man raped the girl on August 25 after she was sent to his house by her mother to collect sugar and rice. The girl was accompanied by her friend.
Upon arrival, the man told his victim to get into the house but she refused.
He forced her into the house and ordered her friend to wait outside. He closed the door and started showing the complainant pornographic films before raping her once.
The accused ordered his victim not to tell anyone and threatened to harm her if she ever disclosed the matter.
The girl went home and revealed the incident to her mother.
A police report was made.
The accused person has since been sentenced to 20 years’ imprisonment.
In another incident, a 28-year-old man from Tsanzaguru, Rusape, was sentenced to 15 years in prison by a Rusape Magistrate for raping a co-tenant.
The court heard that on December 14, 2022, the 19-year-old victim and the man were at home when he offered to charge her cellphone at his grandmother’s place.
He returned home later that evening and knocked on the victim’s door. The victim who was home alone opened the door to get her phone from the man.
Instead, the man grabbed the victim’s hands and dragged her into his room where he raped her.
The victim later managed to escape after biting the man’s hand. She ran to her friend’s place where she revealed the matter.
A police report was made, leading to the man’s arrest.
