A Kwekwe man lost US$7 000 and a mobile phone after three armed suspects pounced on him while he was walking home

Midlands provincial police spokesperson Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko said the police have since launched a manhunt for the trio.

“The incident occurred on Sunday at about 3:30 pm in Fitchlea surbub, Kwekwe,” said Insp Mahoko.

“The three men approached, Courage Mugari (29) who was in the company of his two friends and requested to talk to Mugari in private and they went behind a fowl run.”

He said the robbers lied to Mugari that they were selling gold ore before two of them produced pistols and threatened to shoot him.

“One of the three men used an electric shocker on the complainant, forcing him to sit down,” said Insp Mahoko.

He said they searched his pockets and took US$7 000 and a cell phone from his pockets before running away

Insp Mahoko appealed for information that can help the police to arrest the culprits.

“We urge members of the public to make use of banks and desist from carrying large sums of money as it endangers their lives,” said Insp Mahoko.
