POLICE in Midlands have arrested a Kwekwe criminal who was wanted in connection with several violent crimes and has been evading arrest for the past seven years.

In a statement, Midlands Provincial police spokesperson, Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko, confirmed the arrest of Goodhope Mahachi (39).

“We confirm the arrest of a wanted person in connection with a number of violent crimes dating back to 2018. He was arrested by Zhombe Police at Zhombe East Business Centre, Zhombe on September 6 at about 7 pm,” he said.

Insp Mahoko said Mahachi of Mbizo suburb in Kwekwe had been on the run since 2018.

“His luck ran out when a team of four police officers on patrol arrived at Zhombe East Business Centre, to conduct stop and searches,” he said.

“Mahachi tried several of his antics to resist arrest but was finally arrested and detained. It turned out to be a high-profile arrest and we commend the Police officers involved in the arrest.”

Insp Mahoko said Mahachi has been linked to cases of murder, attempted murder, assault and malicious damage to property committed between 2018 and 2024 around Kwekwe District.

“We reiterate our calls that the general public should remain vigilant and on the lookout for criminal fugitives who may be in their midst, targeting anything they can lay their hands on.”
