THE gold-mining town of Kwekwe will host the inaugural World Fitness Federation Zimbabwe contest on May 13 with several athletes expected to take part.
The contest will be launched this Saturday and will have several categories like junior and senior body-building, bermuda model, bikini model, sports model and strength wars for both men and women.
Athletes are set to walk away with different prizes ranging from trophies, medals, hampers and cash prizes.
WFF Zimbabwe president Godwin Simbarashe Mhaka said they are looking forward to the first ever international fitness contest in the country. They were affected by the Covid-19 soon after they were recognised by the World Fitness Federation.
“We are going to launch the first edition which we will hold in Kwekwe on May 13. The contest will have several categories and we are receiving an overwhelming response from different athletes.
“We are expecting a big turnout as well as some international athletes at the inaugural contest. The launch will be held this weekend and I believe it will be a success,” said Mhaka.
The WFFZ contest is organised by the Mhaka-lead committee that has transformed fitness and healthy living.
Mhaka has since risen to become the WFF Southern Africa committee member where he is looking forward to taking the sport to all provinces and the region at large. He said all was in place for the first ever fitness contest and he explained their choice of Kwekwe as the venue.
“I think we are 60 percent through with preparations and athletes are showing a lot of interest. This being the first edition, we decided to hold it in Kwekwe so as to spread the sport to different provinces.
“The WFFZ contest is a national event and we all know most events are held in Harare and Bulawayo. We opted for a change as we will have the nationals in Harare before the end of the year.
“We are excited that we managed to get support from corporates and individuals like Gold Metal Investments, Musabvunda, Kuvimu Aggregates, Muscle Rage, Supplements Factory
“Transform Nutrition by Cathy, JL Fitness, Muscle laps and Eddy “Gearbox” Mutero among several others who are still coming on board,” said Mhaka.
