Kwekwe United face the music

IT is still early days in the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League (PSL) season, but already, newly promoted side Kwekwe United are finding themselves under an unflattering spotlight.

What was meant to be a golden debut has taken a tarnished turn.

The reigning Zifa Central Region champions have been summoned by the PSL Disciplinary Committee after failing to travel for their away fixture against Herentals College.

“The Castle Lager Premier Soccer League (PSL) has summoned Kwekwe United FC to appear before the PSL Disciplinary Committee following the club’s failure to fulfill its scheduled fixture against Herentals FC on Monday, 21 April 2025,” said PSL communications and media officer, Kudzai Bare.

She added: “Kwekwe United FC have been charged with breaching Order 31 of the PSL Rules and Regulations which states that it is an act of misconduct on the part of a club where: 31.1.8,  it fails to fulfill a fixture for which a date and venue have been fixed by the League; and 31.2.17, behaves in a manner which brings the league or any of its sponsors into disrepute or endangers the welfare of the league.”

The disciplinary hearing is expected to take place tomorrow at 5.30pm at the PSL offices in Harare.

Kwekwe United were promoted to the PSL this season alongside Scottland FC, Triangle United, and ZPC Hwange. However, ZPC Hwange did not take their place in the top-flight after selling their franchise to the Lloyd Mutasa-coached MWOS.

Under the stewardship of former Chicken Inn head coach Prince Matore, now with ambitious Zifa Central Division One side Sheasham, Kwekwe United made history by becoming the first team from the City of Gold to grace the Premier League since Lancashire Steel in 2009.
