adminDurban — A KwaZulu-Natal man alleged to have thousands of child porn images and videos was arrested in a morning raid on his home yesterday. The arrest of the 22-year-old Pennington resident was the result of an international investigation into child pornography syndicates operating in the country. It followed the arrest of William Beale in January this year in Plettenberg Bay.
The man, who is understood to be unemployed, was found in possession of images and videos that reportedly showed the rape of babies and toddlers.
Women and Men Against Child Abuse (WMACA) director Miranda Friedmann hailed the arrest as a significant success in combating the operation of child porn rings in South Africa.
“The young unemployed suspect… will appear in the Scottsburg Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday,” she said. “Despite all the arrests made this year since Beale’s arrest, these users of graphic material depicting the rape of small children have not been deterred from continuing their illegal activities.”
“Our legislative framework that currently applies to children and child abuse material is in desperate need of reform,” Friedmann said. — News24
