Friday, June 13 marked a new chapter for Gwanda-born Kay_Kid Umfanomsotho and songstress La Dee, who recently joined forces musically, as they released their new single, Umaqondana Wami, a heartfelt ode to love and connection.

The track, produced at Elephant Herd Records and mixed and mastered by Godwin Ndlovu, showcases both artistes as songwriters and composers. Not to be outdone by the song alone, the release was accompanied by a visually captivating music video shot by Keaitse Films and directed by the multi-talented Madlela Skhobokhobo, who also appears in the cast. Other cast members include La Dee’s real-life parents, Shepherd Tshuma and Nokuthaba Dhliwayo, alongside Light Ndlovu and Mirriam Khumalo.

Every detail in the video speaks of dedication and cultural pride. Makeup artist Nonny Sanity worked her magic, while accessories stylist Sthandazile Dube, popularly known as Um’Africakazi, infused the production with rich African aesthetics.
Speaking to Zimpapers Arts and Entertainment Hub, La Dee described the single as a celebration of love and its complexities.
“Umaqondana Wami is a heartfelt love song that celebrates the beauty of finding that special someone who truly understands and loves you for who you are. With perfect harmonies, it captures the emotions of being in a relationship where you feel seen, heard, and valued,” she said.

She added: “But as it happens so often, families sometimes interfere in lovers’ affairs and want to have a say, which complicates things. This song reflects our deepest emotions and lived experiences. It’s a reminder of the beauty and power of true love.” – Follow on X: @mthabisi_mthire
