Labour union wrangle

The faction led by Mr Tasara Zvandasara is making the challenge. The new executive has Mr Cuthbert Chikwekwete as the CWUZ president and Mr Jorbert Mudzumwe as secretary-general. The Zvandasara faction wants an order nullifying the congress and elections held at the Management Training Bureau on November 27 and 28 last year.

The CWUZ has been rocked by a leadership crisis since 2009 as infighting led to the emergence of two factions, one aligned to Mr Amos Vhori and another linked to Mr Titus Magaya. Mr Magaya was re-elected as the union’s president at an elective congress convened in February of last year. At that congress Mr Zvandasara was elected vice president while Mr Gilbert Karikuimba as the secretary-general. The matter is yet to be set down for hearing in the High Court of Zimbabwe. – CR.
